FBCS Ministry Sign-Up

Deacons Ministry

Mission: We serve as an extension of the Pastoral Ministry.

Vision: Informed by Acts 6:1-7 and Ephesians 4:2-4; and, in lowliness and meekness, we increase Church
confidence, encourage participation and expand Church growth. Through the performance of Pastoral
assistance and Membership service we demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ as we simultaneously
strive to maintain unity in the life of the Church.
By faithfully serving and attending to the spiritual needs of the congregation we will encourage other
men and women to respond to the call of Christ through the Office of Deacon.  Consequently, the
Church will expand its territory and others will seek membership in our Church family. By providing
support to the Pastor in planning and implementing the church ministry; evangelizing the lost; edifying
the saved; and demonstrating a spiritual consciousness for the needs of others we will bring glory to
God on a weekly basis.

Objectives:

Helping to discover and utilize appropriate ways to serve the Lord and support the church.
Assisting the Pastor with the implementation and conduct of services of Christian Baptism and
Holy Communion.
Praying, visiting and sharing God’s word with members in their homes.
Supporting and caring for members during time of grief and crises.
Being a Source of information and encouragement with regard to faith and the Church.
Rejoicing and fellowshipping with members during times of joy, happiness, and supporting and
encouraging them during times of sadness and despair.

Deaconess Ministry

Mission: The Deaconess Ministry’s mission is to serve, using biblical guidance, act as female leadership, and display agape within the church.

Vision: Using God’s word, spread love, and care for the people of God’s Kingdom. Our ministry is informed by Acts 6:1-7. As extensions of the Deacons as Jesus is an extension of His heavenly Father, we form a seamless approach to ministering to members. Presenting ourselves as friendly we treat each
member as Jesus treats us. Approaching our ministry with utmost seriousness, we show by example,
the sacredness of our tasks.

Objectives:

Fervently praying over our church, the sick and shut-in, and emphasis on having a deeper
walk/relationship with our Lord Jesus the Christ.
Preparation of the Communion Table every first Sunday with the linens, gloves and water (for
washing of the hands). 
Assist female candidates for baptismal services. Care for the baptismal attire, towels; etc. in
preparation for the next baptismal service.
Serve as role models to females of all generations of our church.
Provide spiritual and educational guidance to our youth, i.e. organizing Vacation Bible School
(VBS).

FBCS Ministry Council

Scripture: Ephesians 4:11–13(NIV) So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Mission: The Ministry Council of The First Baptist Church of Steelton exists to glorify God by equipping, empowering, and uniting all ministries of the church in faithful service to Christ. Guided by the Holy Spirit and rooted in the truth of God’s Word, we strive to support the spiritual growth of our congregation, foster community outreach, and advance the Kingdom of God through compassionate leadership, intentional collaboration, and a heart for discipleship.

Objective: To support church ministries in a way that aligns with the church’s mission by providing spiritual guidance, coordinating ministry efforts, equipping leaders, and fostering unity and growth in discipleship and service.

Goldenrod Missionaries

Mission: Connecting people to God, to us, and one another.

Vision: Informed by such scriptures as Psalm 46:1; and Acts 2:42-47. Our ministry of connection in faithful, loving service will have a significant impact on people’s life for Christ. By our prayers, humanitarian aid, advocacy, and community engagement we will grow in our capacity to respond to Church families and increase the quality of life in our community. Our witness in word and deeds will lead others to Jesus Christ. Through our advocacy youth, young adults and seasoned members will increase their participation in Church work.

Objectives: We connect with others by spreading the Gospel through evangelism and discipleship; prayer and Bible Studies; and provisions for the needy. 

Men’s Ministry

Mission: To encourage and help the men of First Baptist to grow in their Love and knowledge of God, build meaningful relationships with each other, fulfill their God roles in family and church, live as Godly men in their communities, work place and share Jesus.

Vision: Proverb 27:17 “Iron Sharpens Iron, so a man Sharpens the Countenance of his friend’s” Seeing men of God serving their families, church and community with the gifts they have been given growing together as the body of Christ.

Objectives:

Spiritual Growth: Teaching men the understanding of God and their faith through Bible study, prayer and other spiritual activities.
Fellowship/Brotherhood: Build strong bonds with each other creating a supportive and
encouraging environment.
Unique Needs: Recognizing unique needs/challenges and provide resources/support.
Evangelism: Encourage men to share their faith with others to reach out to non-believers.

Pastoral Care Ministry

Mission: We assist the Pastor in areas of need.

Vision: Informed by such scriptures as 1st Timothy 5:17-18; First Corinthians 12:28 and Hebrews 13:17. These scriptures highlight the importance of honoring leaders as they serve God’s people.

Objectives: We accomplish our mission by serving, strengthening, encouraging and providing in various ways the things that promote Pastoral effectiveness in the performance of his duties.

The Senior Citizens Guild

Mission: We promote Christian Fellowship opportunities.

Vision: Seniors Fellowship provides opportunities for certain persons under senior citizen status to develop relationships with their brothers and sisters in Christ. By doing so our seniors will feel very much a part of the church in those years and have taken much of the strength from their bodies into some extent their mind. As a result of interaction through activities and programs and projects seniors will feel that their purpose is not defined by the physicality of their body. They will feel very much included in the life of the church and they have slowly reached a point where they can no longer do what they would love to do and as often as they would love to do it.

Objectives: We sponsor Christian fellowship, enjoyment, and entertainment for people 55 years of age and older, without regard to church affiliation, through weekly meetings which consist of devotions, games, exercise, special programs, and lunch. The Guild also encourages travel during several annual one-day excursions and a September week-long trip.

Trustee Ministry

Mission: To serve faithfully as stewards of the church’s assets.

Vision: Informed by Second Chronicles 7:1-8 we envision building and keeping God’s House consistent with the Holiness of His name! When we treat God’s House in the Holiness of His name God will affirm and bless His House with various manifestations of His presence and power! We assure that worshipper’s worship in a context of comfort and convenient access for one and all.

Objectives: We accomplish our mission through professional management of God’s financial resources, physical property, ensuring that God’s assets are managed responsibly and effectively in alignment with the Word of God.

Women’s Ministry

Mission: Encourage women through the Word of God and prayer.

Vision: God’s Word empowers each woman to fulfill their calling. The women have a desire to find their purpose in Christ. Our women seek to be a filled vessel for Christ and opportunities to inspire other women to grow their relationship with God.

Objectives: Uplift women in spirit and in truth with earnest faith for life trials. Engage in dialogue with compassion through biblical truths.

Youth & Young Adult (YAYA) Ministry

Mission: We equip youth and young adults to live by faith.

Vision: Using the gifts, experiences, talent and skill, we will develop a strong and vibrant Ministry to Youth and Young adults that will be contagiously exciting and appealing. By sponsoring various Youth and Young adult activities we will assure that our church is well represented by every demographic. We will assure that young people are a part of the present Church with a voice in all matters of faith and well instructed in the commandments of God to the glory of God.

Objectives: Contribute to the fulfillment of the Great Commission; disciple young people both within and beyond our church; and, through the teaching of the Gospel, we aim to cultivate a deep understanding of Christ’s immeasurable and unconditional love. We achieve our Objectives by sponsoring various youth and young adult activities throughout the year.

Within this ministry youth and young adults have opportunities to share their gifts and talents and serve the Lord through liturgical/mime dance and singing with the Voices of Unity Youth and Young Adult Choir.

Bereavement Ministry

Mission: We provide Christian comfort and support to grieving families.

Vision: Informed by Psalm 46:1; John 11:21; and Philippians 4:10-14, we see ourselves as God’s present help in times of trouble, especially death. Our vision is to provide the kind of spiritual support that encourages brotherly and sisterly love with Jesus as our model of loving kindness and tender mercy. No member will be unreached by our intentional determination to do all we can to be channels of God’s call.

Objectives: The Bereavement Ministry accomplishes this task by making home visits and numerous phone calls, assists in the preparation of funeral programs (both paper and actual) and the planning, and by serving repast, if requested.

Media/Virtual Ministry

Mission: The Media and Virtual Ministry Team of The First Baptist Church of Steelton exists to glorify God by using digital platforms, creative media, and technology to share the Gospel, connect the church body, and extend the reach of Christ beyond the walls of the sanctuary. 

Our Vision: Informed by Mark 16:15, we empower the church to reach beyond its walls with creative excellence and unwavering faith in the digital age.

Objective: We aim to create meaningful worship experiences, foster virtual discipleship, and make the love of Jesus accessible to all anytime, anywhere.

Out Reach Ministry

Mission: To demonstrate, cultivate and employ the love and compassion of Jesus Christ. Our Mission is
accomplished through acts of outreach, in reach, fellowship and Christian education.

Vision: Our vision is reflected in such scriptural passages as Luke 4:18-21; Matthew 25:34-40; and Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:41-44. To become a beacon of Hope and Help. Spreading relief to the poor, aid to the sick and support to the distressed; in our church, in our community and across the globe. Our faithfulness in witnessing, evangelism and service to the least of Jesus’ lambs, sheep, and potential members expand our territory as God adds to our church those destined to be saved.

Objectives: We reach out to Christians and non-Christians through activities, programs, projects, etc., that promote salvation and deliverance. We accomplish our mission through individual, family, and Community service.

Prison Support Ministry

Mission: To provide support and comfort to members who have children or loved ones who are incarcerated.

Vision: Informed by Galatians 6:10, we serve to create a healing and compassionate community to support members belonging to the body of believers. We will embrace, support, pray for and lift up members and their incarcerated children and loved ones.

Objectives: To provide a safe and supportive space for members with incarcerated children and loved ones to openly share and process their sorrow, grief and guilt; and to let them know there is still hope through Christ Jesus, and that they do not have to walk this journey alone.

Flower Ministry

Mission: We share the beauty and love of God for worship and special occasions.

Vision: Our vision is based on our church’s desire to be a place which mirrors that of the home of those who come to visit us. It is our belief that potential members are looking for a church home that is at least as comfortable and warm and beautiful and orderly as their own. We seek God’s blessings on
our church as we attempt to worship him in the beauty of holiness.

Objectives: We accomplish our mission through the gift of floral arrangements, cards, compassionate expressions of joy, and hope to the honor and glory of God.

Hospitality/Greeters Ministry

Mission: The Hospitality/Greeters Ministry glorify God by serving as welcoming gatekeepers to His house, creating a warm, uplifting first impression that enriches every person’s worship experience.

Vision: Informed by Matthew 10:40-42 “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.” We serve God’s people as gatekeepers and hosts, creating a warm, loving environment that reflects the heart of Christ, where every person feels welcomed, valued, and spiritually prepared to engage in meaningful worship from the moment they enter the church.

Objective: To faithfully serve God’s people as gatekeepers and hosts, ensuring that everyone who enters His house is welcomed with love, kindness, and the spirit of Christ.

Intercessory Prayer Ministry

Mission: To pray on behalf of others, pleading with God for their needs and well being.

Vision: Our vision is lead by such scripture as Romans 12:12, Philippians 4:16, 1 Thessalonians 5:17, and Ephesians 6:18.  Our prayers will have a powerful impact on the lives of those being prayed for and from that we can experience our own spiritual growth.

Objectives: We accomplish our objective by meeting regularly every Tuesday at noon to pray and intercede for the needs of others, lifting their burdens to the LORD. To emphasize the importance of caring for others and advocating for them in prayer. To encourage others to pray for others whether they know them or not.

Mass Choir

Mission: Our mission is to provide an inspirational environment appropriate for worship.

Vision: Our Ministry is informed by such scriptural passages as Psalm 150; John 4:24; 1 Thessalonians 2:7; 1Corinthians 12:28; Timothy 5:17-18. The Vision of the Mass Choir is to uplift and inspire through the powerful tradition of African American Gospel Music; foster a sense of community, spiritual growth, and emotional connection. Rooted in faith and culture, our choir spreads messages of hope, love, and joy of the Gospel through music. Through dynamic performances and heartfelt ministry, we honor the rich legacy of African American Gospel while strengthening unity and empowerment within our congregation.  We are also dedicated to bringing diverse voices together in harmony to create inspirational worship services.

Objectives: We accomplish our mission through singing, music conferences, and workshops for choir and musicians’ development.

Music Ministry

Mission: Our Ministry practices, maintains and restores musical integrity for worship purposes.

Vision:
Informed by Psalm 150 we will maintain integrity in the music ministry for the edification of
worshippers. We supplement the Ministry of Proclamation so sermons will be reinforced. We will
participate in community and Church annual services or in a show of unity in the Body of Christ. We
envision reaching a professional stage that will enable the recording of a CD and Video. By doing so,
the music ministry will minister in song locally and internationally as there in ALL media platforms!

Objectives: Through the Minister of Music First Baptist will restore our youth/young adult choir; and the Charles Donahue Male chorus.

Public Safety Ministry

Mission: To ensure a safe, secure, and welcoming environment, and to always be vigilant. To allow for all
who attend, to fellowship in peace and protection.

Vision: Informed by scripture Psalm 121:7-8 “The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” Our ministry serves to create a secure, welcoming environment for all who enter the church by promoting preparedness, protecting life and property, and responding with compassion and vigilance in times of need. Our vision is to serve as guardians of peace, ensuring every worshipper feels safe to grow in faith and community.

Objectives:
To make sure the church is safe. To provide a plan for emergencies. To obtain training for the members of the ministry. To ensure proper licenses as required.

Usher’s Ministry

Mission: To welcome everyone with a warm and joyful greeting, to always be vigilant, to provided assistance when needed and ensure a safe and orderly worship experience.

Vision: Informed by such scriptures as Psalm 84:10. Every member and visitor to First Baptist will feel welcomed from a warm and joyful greeting. Through our trained awareness their needs will be met as safety is also provided. Visitors will share their worship experience with family and friends. Church Attendance ministry collaboration will increase, serving as a model for ministry unity. By serving with excellence, we will do our part in contributing to the Church’s membership.

Objectives: Greet every person that enters the Church at all worship services. Ask questions that speak to any needs they may have. Provide whatever services may be needed and, in our capacity, to do.
